I woke up late because I was up late sewing hats. But eventually, I was awake... and with very active and rowdy girls, headed off to the pool. Let's be first and avoid the Sunday crowd.

The indoor pool is being cleaned all week. This is reassuring because we'll be in there a lot all winter.

On the way home we stopped for flowers. I've been in search of black eyed susans, brown eyed susans and mums. Found a few very expensive ones at Home Depot. I only bought one pot. If I want to pay a lot of money for flowers, I might as well go to the local places that add value by creating better flowers, charming atmosphere, helpful people and larger, more well maintained varieties of flowers.

Eventually, it was back to the sewing room. I've decided it should be called the sewing DEN. I am obsessed with creating a new hat. Sounds rather straightforward but I'm knee deep in disaster so far.

My model head lady helps me refine the shape for a hat.

The highlight was when I got this hat halfway done. At that point, I thought I nailed a new model. Unfortunately, by the time it was completed, I felt less enthusiastic about the hat. It's somewhere between cloche and rain bucket.

Fits Ellie. Maybe she will wear it this fall. She looks like a detective. She got another failed model out of the trash bin and said "I can use this one when I want to play Safari!"

One way to design a new hat without wasting tons of fabric is to make it in miniature first. Woodstock is my hat model now.

The project continues. There have been some negative moments but I think now I will come out of this with a hat at the end of the tunnel.
