Today I took the girls to York, Maine. It took about an hour to drive there. We visited York Wild Kingdom, a small zoo with lions, tigers, bears, birds, monkeys, etc. After the zoo, we went to Stonewall Kitchen Cafe for lunch. After regaining our energy with lunch, we went towards the coast. We found Nubble Light House along the rocky Cape Neddick. Then we found ourselves at Short Sands Beach, where the girls played for quite a while. Julia especially enjoyed the freedom of running on the broad beach. Ellie made a friend and played in the water. Next to the shore was a street of shops, including my favorite type of shop - the old fashioned candy store. We found one making salt water taffy, which was fun to see. Eventually we did have to drive home. Good day however, nice mix of things for the girls.

Hot day
Today was our first hot day of the year. It was hard to believe as the temperature went from 50s to 80s in one day. Humidity was so high that our tile floors were sweating. We turned on the air conditioning for the first time this year also. Quite a shock to the system, although not unwelcome. We enjoyed the warm weather by heading out early this morning for a local school fair. By lunch time we were back at home, doing chores in the garage during Julia's midday nap. We spent the later afternoon in the air conditioned rooms (only 2). Then evening turned out nice again, for backyard playtime and story telling. Here you see the girls on the backyard swings, one of their happiest locations.
